Abstract
Auspicious words of greeting (beige demberliin ug) are a clear example of the customary and symbolic qualities of Mongolian oral literature.
The significance of Mongolian auspicious words of greeting can be summarized as follows:
1. They reflect and constitute an essential element of Mongolians' everyday symbolic philosophy, summarized by the saying “eternal auspice from oral auspice”, preserving the qualities of mantras wishing for continuous future good fortune.
2. From the perspective of their customary role, these auspicious words serve as benedictive greetings that highlight the customary aspects of the activities to which they relate.
3. From the perspective of their poetic form and structure, they are extremely fixed and concise, taking the form of popular, artistic sayings.
