The influence of huurin-uliger on the Mongolian novel The Clear River of Tamir

Abstract

This paper studies the examples of Huurin-uliger motives and scenes in the well-famed Mongolian novel The Clear River of Tamir by the national-award writer Ch. Lodoidamba from Mongolia. Through an analysis of the motif and scenes such as sword battle or sword dance, winning the fierce enemy with clever tricks, playing flute and moving the enemies, description of civil servants and military attaches, announcement of military laws before military expedition and so on, the paper concludes that the Huurin-uliger or Bensen-uliger has great influence among the people of Mongolia, which has been reflected in the Ch. Lodoidamba’s novel.
