Principle of formation of proper nouns from other proper nouns in modem Mongolian

Abstract

Proper nouns of a language consist of the common noun or words of another language. It is a way of the formation of proper nouns. As well as, there is another way for formation of proper noun, which is the existing proper nouns are used as other new proper nouns. In other words, there are two main ways: firstly, formation from common nouns, secondly, formation from proper nouns.

It is common phenomenon that just a kind of proper nouns is used as another kind of proper nouns, in any language. For example, a personal name Sukhbaatar became the names either name of province or name of city. Also, place names, names of country or cities, names of territorial units are used as personal names such as Altai, Huvsgul, Oros (means Russia), Mongol, Ulaanbaatar, Darhan-Uul, Zuunbayan, Beijing, Daringana and so on.


It is necessary to study the principle and ways of formation of proper nouns in modem Mongolian in detail. Therefore, in this paper, we dealt with the usage of proper nouns as personal names, basing on the concrete materials. Thus, it became clear that the use of the existing proper nouns as new proper nouns is a common principle in modem Mongolian.
