On the loss of basic meanings of Mongolian words

Abstract

Synonymic meaning or each basic meaning of a word in the structure of compound word becomes blurred broadly in the modern Mongolian language. For example, words such as садан төрөл, төрөл садан (relative) frequently occur, but what is the exact meaning of төрөл? What is the exact meaning of садан? What are the differences between these two words? The meanings of these have been explained incorrectly or in different meanings in varying dictionaries.
In this article, the author analyzed this phenomenon among many words in modern Mongolian and examines words related to the earth and various surfaces such as Хөвч, Тайга, Зүлэг, Ширэг, Булаг, Шанд, Жалга, Судаг, Гуу, Ганга, Хөндий, Хоолой, Царам, Сарьдаг.
