A Version of a Legend in Historical Sources and Its Artistic Characteristics

Abstract

The basal approach to writing historical sources in the 17th - 18th centuries involved converting historical events into artistic forms while expanding and condensing these events through the lens of the historian’s personal thoughts, opinions, and socio-political situation in which they lived. This article examines and interprets the relationship between the various versions of the legend, contingently referred to as the “Legend of Togoon Taish,” and their artistic characteristics. The legend serves as a reflection of Mongolian’s social and political conditions in during that time, conveying central themes in a profound and artistic manner. It also depicts a recurring pattern of connecting events that shaped the nation’s political and social landscape, alongside the individuals who played key roles in those events, affirming the common characteristics of legends.
