On the questions of orthographical systematization of Mongolized foreign words

Abstract

As the Mongols have a long history of interaction with other peoples and nations, the Mongolian language has absorbed and been enriched by many dozens of words from foreign languages. Currently the Mongolian language contains words derived from approximately 30 other languages.

From a linguistic perspective, insofar as each language is an instrument of communication, there is no such thing as a word that cannot be translated, though we might speak of a word as being translateable or untranslateable in terms of the individual translator's ability. Yet given the widespread public adoption of various foreign words, it can be difficult to insist on the use of translated equivalents. A central question that thus arises is how to write such loan words correctly. For example, the Russian word plitka (“stove") is pronounced peleeteg or pileeteg by Mongolians, though it has not yet been clearly established how this word should be correctly written when used in Mongolian.
