On the consonant phonemes in Monguor language

Abstract

Based on The Database of Acoustic Intermediate Numbers of Monguor Language, this paper ascertains the amount and the articulation manner of the single consonants in Monguor Language by using acoustic methods, summarizes the single consonant phonemes, phoneme variants and their variation condition by using generalizing method, and studies the combination of compound consonants by using statistical method. There are 23 single consonant phonemes, 31 combinations of compound consonants in Monguor Language. The variants of single consonants belong to conditional change caused by adjacent phonemes.
