Abstract

Taking refuge in the Three Jewels is the first step to becoming Buddhist. Taking refuge is an independent doctrine of Buddhism and an important component of Buddhist philosophy. In the Great Liberation Sutra, the Three Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha – are introduced respectively and reasons and importance of taking refuge in the Three Jewels are explained.
