Abstract

Mongolia has experienced remarkably rapid economic growth during the last decade. We conduct growth accounting exercise for a period of 1980-2017. In the socialist system, capital was the main contributor (54 percent) to economic growth, while in the market system research and development or total factor productivity has became the main source (65 percent) of economic growth. However, in recent years, contribution of human capital and technological progress has been declining.
