Abstract

Geotechnical surveys are conducted to determine the stability of future mine walls, structural geology, and production resource estimates. This research work included measurements of the structure of fractures and fissures developed in the ore and host rocks throughout the deposit, geotechnical recordings of the surface exposures of the ore bodies and cores of drill holes, and calculations of the results. The geo-environmental conditions of the Zeegt graphite deposit are that most of the limestone and ore deposits of the Neoproterozoic Zeeg Formation are located horizontally within the calcified shale layer. The average graphite grade of the deposit is 4.78% and consists of four layers. The deepest drilled hole is 130 m, and the depth of any future open pit mining will be limited by the depth of this hole. Rocscience Slide-2, Dips, and Rocdata programs were used to conduct the geotechnical study, and the RMR of the mine wall of the Zeegt graphite deposit was estimated to be 44.56.
