Features of the Mongolian translation of some of Michel de Montaigne's essays translated from French

Abstract

In this article, we have compared the translation of Chapters 1, 10 and 12 of three essays from the first book of a French Renaissance philosopher Michel de Montaigne's "Les Essays" that were translated from French language more than 30 years ago, in 1990, by Toitogiin Tumurkhuleg, a famous translator and diplomat, with the original version. When translating the content and plot of the original text into Mongolian, the translator Tumurkhuleg T. had taken into account the deep root meaning of the words, in addition to rationalization, in some cases, he had commonly used idioms with added and more powered meaning. Within the framework of this study, a selection of idioms in the translated version has been analyzed, and the meaning of those idioms has been compared to the context of the work and the words in the original text, and the translator's method and the characteristics and features of the translation have been determined. The translator Tumurkhuleg T., who had translated the original work written in the 16th century aligned to the living and relations of the western people, had brought the work to the minds of the Mongolian people of the 1990s through the reflection of the national mentality and cultural uniqueness by the use of idioms. The fact that the translator had been able to fully reflect the norms of the Mongolian language in the translation, on the other hand, it had also helped to reflect the characteristics of the literary translation.
