Abstract

Writing is the most creative skill compared with other skills such as reading, listening and oral communication. It means English teachers must be creative and inspired to develop their students` writing skills and investigate suitable ways to teach them. Turk and Kirkman[1] said that “students could learn how to write as doing.” [1. X7] On the other hand, writing is an essential way to communicate, which should be studied intentionally as reviewed by Hefferman and Lincoln[2][2. X3].  Nowadays study and teaching of English is developing day by day in Mongolia. Nevertheless, students` writing skills are not adequately upgraded at an academic level. In light of that I have conducted a survey on common mistakes made by Mongolian students and the ways to teach them how to write good essays and paragraphs based on the results.
