Abstract

Online and social media have
transformed journalism practices, forcing
newsrooms to embrace a hybrid model of
news reporting. This research aims to study
ethical issues that result from social media
usage in news reporting, and ways to
develop ethical codes of conduct by
interviewing editors and journalists. These
ethical issues include verification,
transparency, accuracy, and news agenda
setting. The result reveal that journalists,
editors, and news producers lack guidance
and tools to respond appropriately to new
ethical issues when using online and social
media, which are not covered by current laws
and ethical codes.
