Abstract

In this study, the author explains one
of the basic principles of journalistic ethics:
"Do not use deception, misleading, or
misrepresentation." The article explains this
principle of professional ethics from a
theoretical and practical point of view,
highlighting five criteria for justifying a false
approach to journalism. According to these
criteria, the cases of "ABC News and the Food
lion", " Masquerading of freelance journalist
Jonathan Franklin", and "McDonald's in
Mongolia" were discussed, followed by other
professional newsrooms’ ethical principles
reflected deception.
