Abstract

The Mongolian National News Agency
MONTSAME was founded on July 19, 1921.
Soon after that, on May 25, 1922, the first
issue of the newspaper Bulletin of the
Mongolian Telegraph Agency was published
in Russian. On June 22, 1922, the Mongolian
version of the newspaper Khuraangui Setguul
was published. A total of 19 news items were
published in two newspapers. The texts in
Russian and Mongolian have basically the
same content, although some news in
Russian has not been translated into
Mongolian. The articles were carefully analy
zed and studied by the author. 9 of the news
of the two newspapers are related to Mongolia
and the internal life of the Mongols, and 10 are
foreign news. The ratio of domestic and
foreign news of the first Mongolian and
Russian-language newspapers MONTSAME
was 49 to 51%.
The researcher emphasizes that
MONTSAME from the very beginning adhered
to this reasonable balance of information in its
newspapers, and notes the exceptional
importance of century-old news to provide
readers of that time with valuable and
objective facts about the country and beyond,
confirming his research, for example, with
data from the Mongolian census (as of 1918),
discoveries and results of research work of
Russian and American geographical expedi
tions of that time in Mongolia.
The efforts of the Mongolian news
agency MONTSAME in disseminating infor
mation about Mongolia and the Mongols
around the world through the publication of a
newspaper in Russian, which was published
twice a week in 1922, are especially noted.
This indicates that the Mongolian news
agency MONTSAME, since its inception, has
developed in accordance with the develop
ment trend of world news agencies.
In 2009, Dr. T.Baasansuren published
the book “Mongolian Free Press of the Early
20th Century” (parts I and II) with a detailed
analysis of publications in the publications
“Khuraangui setguul” /Consolidated journal/
and “MONTA Bulletin”. This time the author
shares his observations on all the articles in
the first issues of these two newspapers.
Based on his analysis of the publications of the
first issues of “Khuraangui setguul” /Consoli
dated magazine/ and “MONTA Bulletin”, the
researcher notes that these two newspapers
adequately continued the relatively high level
of free press laid down by the newspapers
“Shine toli hemeeh bichig” /New Mirror/ and
“Niislel Khurenii sonin bichig” /Capital news/ in
1913-1920.
