Abstract

In the last two centuries, the
concepts of freedom of the press and the
right to freedom of expression have been
used side by side. Freedom of the press has
come to be seen as a basic human rights
issue and a vital indicator of democracy
rather than just a matter of media workers
and journalists. It is an overgeneralization
that journalists must protect the freedom of
the press because they protect the interests
of the public. When the freedom of the press
and the right to freedom of expression are
facing a dangerous situation around the
world, it is important to know the basic
content, interrelationship, and regularity of
the right to freedom of expression and the
freedom of the press. Today, the idea of
democracy, human rights, and a humane
society has spread worldwide, but the
freedom of the press is in a dangerous and
fragile situation. This article aims to broadly
explain what is included in the concept of
freedom of the press and the right to freedom
of expression, and how they are interrelated.
