Acta Mongolica is a fully open-access journal and does not charge any publication or processing fees. It is an international, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal with a primary focus on Mongolian Studies across the social sciences and humanities, including linguistics, philology, anthropology, culture, religion, archaeology, history, socio-political studies, economics, and international studies.

The journal aims to promote area-based research and strengthen academic collaboration among scholars and institutions. It serves as a global knowledge hub and resource on Mongolia for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers worldwide.

The journal publishes 1-2 issues annually with additional special issues since 2002, and under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) 4.0 International license since 2023.  Journal's Print ISSN is 2074-1014 and online ISSN is 2959-5630.

Since 2002, the Institute for Mongolian Studies of the National University of Mongolia has been publishing the journal "Acta Mongolica" and distributing it worldwide to research communities, both online and in print.

The journal welcomes academic articles and book reviews in the fields of linguistics, history, anthropology, archaeology, culture, religion, society, philosophy, politics, law, and economics, with a focus on regional issues, especially those concerning Mongolia and Inner Asia. 

The journal also aims to promote area-based research institutes and studies, as well as academic collaboration. It serves as a knowledge hub and database on Mongolia for researchers, practitioners and policymakers worldwide. The journal publishes 1-2 issues annually, with additional special issues since 2002.
