Abstract: Despite its no former sociological education background and professional tradition, Mongolia was greatly influenced by the emergence of sociology in the Soviet Union in the 1960s as it was following the model of the Soviet Union. This led to the establishment of Mongolia’s first social science research institutes; under the leadership of Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP), Concrete Research Committee under the Party Committee of Ulaanbaatar in 1966, Philosophy, Sociology and Legal Study Department at the Institute of History of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, in 1967 and the Student Training and Ideological Laboratory at the National University of Mongolia in 1971 were formed respectively. The article examines the formation of the Concrete Research Council, the scientists working there and the researches conducted. The council, however, conducted the first political sociological survey for ideological purposes for the party use. This gradually contributed to the institutionalization and development of Marxist Sociology in Mongolia.
