Abstract

In the new century, when public diplomacy is important in international
relations, one of the countries that actively or effectively promotes public
diplomacy policy at the international level is the Republic of Korea. The purpose
of this paper is to evaluate the achievements and outcomes of cultural and public
diplomacy between Mongolia and the Republic of Korea in the following three
decades of diplomatic relations through images and perceptions of Korea and
Koreans in Mongolia. To achieve its goal, the paper compared the results of two
intensive surveys of “Mongolians’ perceptions of Korea” conducted in 2011 and
2015, and “Mongolians’ acceptance of Korean culture” conducted by the author
in 2019. The results of the survey demonstrated that Korea’s national image in
Mongolia and Mongolians’ perception of Koreans and Korean products were
generally positive, It was observed that factors such as human exchanges between
the two countries and Mongolians’ acceptance of Korean cultural content and
demand for Korean products were greatly influenced.
