Abstract

This article addresses how the mainstream social networking sites
created and accelerated infodemic and how infodemic shaped public opinion and
mentality during the Covid-19 pandemic in Mongolia.
In the context of Mongolia, it is possible to separate the “traditional” media
from the infodemic but just to focus on the social media sites in this concern.
Notably, monitoring social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
YouTube, LinkedIn, Tiktok, Snapchat, and Reddit and preventing the spread of the
infodemic have been critical and yet hard to achieve globally. In fact, managing
and controlling the content and flow of information on social networking sites is
a global challenge. However, observing infodemics with special focus on social
media sites is important as it could be the fundamental to understand infodemic to
the root. As this study was written and developed as of January 2021, the data and
the public opinion polls reflect the situation of the past.
