Abstract

Poverty in Mongolia is one of the most important social issues in the
country. The government and relevant agencies have been active in implementing
these measures, but the results have not been very successful. China, on the
other hand, is the first country in the world to lift about 1.3 million people out of
poverty each year. It is possible for Mongolia to learn from China’s experience
in poverty reduction, develop a comprehensive poverty reduction policy tailored
to Mongolia’s national situation, and explore the right ways to reduce poverty.
Following the completion of Mongolia’s first Millennium Development Goal
poverty reduction plan, the poverty rate in 2015 was twice as high as in 2010,
but did not reach the expected target. In 2016, the “Sustainable Development
Plan 2030” was implemented and poverty was reduced, but poverty reduction
remains a priority. Poverty remains a major problem in Mongolia, and at the
same time, poverty reduction has become a benchmark for measuring people’s
public performance.
