Abstract
In the middle of 1990’s, the UNDP was implementing the development
program “Tumen River” zone in the border area of Russia, China and North
Korea. This document laid the foundation for the development of the NorthEast Asian region based on multilateral cooperation between South Korea and
Mongolia. In 1991, Mongolia and Korea established diplomatic relations, and in
2011, the two countries reached the level of “comprehensive partnership”. Since
1991, The Republic of Korea is considered as Mongolia’s “third neighbor” and
has been supporting Mongolian democracy, increasing trade and investment
relations, and lending through Official Development Assistants (ODA) over the
last 26 years. Since 1991, Mongolians have been studying and working in Korea.
As a result, we have more active cultural and humanitarian exchanges than
any other Asian countries. Mongolia and South Korea have been paying more
attention to strengthen its Northeast Asian cooperation in Asia-Pacific region,
and have been trying to start economic integration in the region
