Abstract

In this brief article I want to exchange thoughts about a phenomenon that we do not notice often. A phenomenon veiled behind one noble act that we, Mongolians, accept as one of the most valuable of all human actions for a person, the teaching or educating. I argue that educational structure or the school is similar to Goffman’s total institution, and process of learning overlaps with a process of disciplining, as Foucault emphasized. Behind learning, there lie enormous power relations, which in reality too often make us unable to distinguish learning from disciplining. However, these relations in turn produce an order, conditioned with symbolic and non-symbolic power, which regulates subject’s conduct and reproduces itself through that very conducts of the subject. I try to show this on the example of a school.
