Using a participatory methodology in natural resource management. Social and gender equality
Keywords:
natural resource management, participatory methodology, genderAbstract
The purpose of the research is to clarify the methods to provide gender equity in NRM on the basis of studying men and women’s role and participation in NRM, and to identify the possibilities to support women’s participation in NRM in the macro, mezzo, and micro levels of gender analysis. Women's participation in natural resource management, use, decision-making and implementation levels have been taken into consideration quite recently in Mongolia. Women's low participation in conservation, protection and restoration of natural resources and its management is matter of a reality today. The main sources of revenue of project activity implemented communities are pastoral animal husbandry. Although both women and men play important, but different roles in the management of natural resources in Mongolia’s nomadic pastoralism, women’s particular roles and participation in natural resource use, decision-making and implementation have been undervalued. In many cases, in research and in policy-making, women’s knowledge and abilities are “simply” forgotten or neglected.
