Abstract

This study aims to elucidate the utilization of addition techniques in literary translation and the underlying rationales driving their usage. The research focuses on sentences related to the living environment of the Mongolians and natural state depicted in the books "Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World" by Jack Weatherford and "Өнөөгийн ертөнцийг үндэслэгч Эзэн Чингис хаан" translated by G. Ganbold. Employing both qualitative and quantitative research methods, the investigation draws upon Rodica Dimitriu's (2004) framework, which advocates for considering linguistic, pragmatic, cultural, and ideological adjustments in translation. The findings of this research highlight that addition techniques are commonly used, particularly in literary translation, in order to accommodate the linguistic and stylistic preferences, as well as cultural disparities of the target language readers.
