Abstract

Since the 1970s, the global approach to foreign language education has shifted. Language is no longer viewed solely from a linguistic-structural perspective but also in terms of its pragmatic use, connecting it to everyday life needs. As a result, new methodologies and concepts have emerged in translation techniques and teaching approaches. Mastering a language generally requires developing four essential skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The goal of foreign language education is to help students acquire these skills in a balanced manner. However, in practice, it is often observed that university graduates specializing in foreign languages do not achieve sufficient proficiency in writing skills. When applying the knowledge acquired in their home country to real-life situations abroad, individuals frequently need to translate between their native language and the foreign language. This requires practical translation skills in both directions. Therefore, helping students reach a writing proficiency level that meets this demand is a key objective of the educational process.

AbstracIn this study, we examine how students’ official document writing skills in both their native and foreign languages can be improved by analyzing the content of translation courses in the Japanese language program at the University of Humanities.
