Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of  translation competence, as well as its historical development and common classification. According to the purpose of this study, four research questions were asked. 1) What exactly is the translation competence?, 2) How many translation competences have been defined?, 3) Are there any social impacts on translation competence?, 4) If this is the case, is the impact taken into account in PLO and CLO in educational programs for English Translation and Interpretation?

After the study, we found the answers. 1) The translation competence is a set of required skills to make a translation. 2) Although there are categories for translation competence, such as main and sub, they will never be the final version. The reason for this is that during the translation process, the more the translator faces challenges, the more new competences are increased. 3) Translation has already seen a social impact, and this impact will undoubtedly persist. 4) In educational programs for English Translation and Interpretation, educators should include the technical and technological competence that students need today.
