Idioms are frozen patterns of any languages which allow little or no variation in form, and carry meanings that cannot be revealed from their individual components. A man’s ability of using idioms of a foreign language hardly ever matches that of a native speaker. The majority of translators working into a foreign language cannot hope to achieve the same sensitivity that native speakers seem to have for judging when and how an idiom can be manipulated. This raises issues into the argument that translators should only work into their native language or language of habitual use.
Idioms demand that a translator be not only accurate but highly sensitive to the
rhetorical effects of the language. The way in which idioms can be interpreted or translated
into another language depends on many factors.
