Abstract

          Translation of medical terms is extremely complicated. There must not be any error in the translation of medical terms such as symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prescription. Any minor error can lead to irreparable damage. (Khainovskaya 2013:290) Despite the fact that the quality of translation of medical terms is constantly improving, there are still many mistakes occurring: double meanings of words giving ambiguity, errors in word-formations and use of technical terms wrongly.

          Aim of the study is to evaluate English- Mongolian translation of medical terms.
         Objectives: 1) to determine current situation of English- Mongolian translation of medical terms 2) to identify ways of improving the accuracy of translating medical terms.
         Methods: In our study we used a documentary research method, team interview and questionnaires.
         Conclusion: The main difficulty in translating medical terms is that the terms appear in multiple forms in dictionaries. The translation of medical terms needs to be refined. To achieve this, the establishment of a National Committee on Medical Terminology and the involvement of specialists in each field is considered to be the right step.
